John Isner registered just one win in the first two months of the season but still managed to do enough to earn a debut appearance at the season-ending ATP Finals.
The 33-year-old only discovered he would be involved after Rafael Nadal withdrew through injury but the American will have hopes of impressing under the O2 lights.
A first Masters 1000 title of his career came at the Miami Open, where he defeated Marin Cilic, Hyeon Chung, Juan Martin Del Potro and Alexander Zverev.
That victory saw him move into the world's top 10 and a career-high ranking of world No 9 but a disappointing clay court campaign followed.
Isner was once again involved in a memorable Wimbledon encounter as he suffered a five-set semi-final defeat to Kevin Anderson - the second longest ever Grand Slam singles match.
After winning his fifth Atlanta Open title and reaching the US Open quarter-finals, the American suffered a dip in form as he sought to book his ATP Finals qualification outright.
