Newcastle agree Botman deal in principle

Sven Botman is closing in on completing his move to Newcastle from Lille with the Premier League club announcing they have completed a deal in principle for the defender and agreed the terms of a five-year contract.

The formalities of the transfer are set to be concluded this week, following which the 22-year-old will officially become a Newcastle United player.

The Dutch defender has completed his medical ahead of his £35m move.

His is Eddie Howe's primary target this window.

Newcastle have followed Botman since January and have beaten off competition from Italian giants AC Milan.

Newcastle United are still in talks for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike but are prepared to walk away from the deal if progress is not made.

Negotiations over certain terms have been described to Sky Sports News as "difficult", with one source revealing that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in the France U21 International, and that other clubs are also keen.

Sky Sports News also understands Newcastle are close to agreeing personal terms with the 20-year-old.

Nick Pope has completed his £10m move to Newcastle from Burnley with the England goalkeeper signing a four-year contract.

The 30-year-old was keen to stay in the Premier League after Burnley's relegation to the Championship to ensure he remains in Gareth Southgate's England plans ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this winter.

Pope, who had one year left on his contract at Burnley, will challenge Martin Dubravka for the No 1 jersey at St James' Park.

Targett completes permanent Newcastle move

Matt Targett has completed his permanent move to Newcastle after the club activated their option to sign him following his successful loan spell.

The 26-year-old impressed head coach Eddie Howe and the club's new owners, playing every minute of the 16 Premier League matches he appeared in after joining on January 31, helping to steer the club away from the relegation picture and finish 11th, keeping five clean sheets along the way.

Newcastle had a deal in place to make the move permanent for £15m, which includes a £3m loan fee for last season, and have activated the option.
