Verdict

Rathbone won this last season and his young rider was on board when beaten a short-head here last month though he ran poorly at Hamilton last time. Four-times winner APLOMB (NAP) stumbled leaving the stalls at Nottingham but still managed to lead until close home. Cairn Gorm, a Group 3 winner as a juvenile, showed a glimmer of his old ability at Windsor last time and has been dropped 2lb while Pendleton has been racing in better company and his close third at York last month puts him right in the picture. Mojomaker takes on older horses for the first time while Total Commitment found Ascot’s Buckingham Palace Stakes too hot to handle.
